Cheerleading is coming to Galena.

Twelve girls signed up for the squad. The first practice was on October 12, said Noel Rubel, cheerleading coach.

The cheerleaders plan on cheering the Galena Hawks at home basketball games for both the boys and girls teams, she said.

The team practices in the GILA gym at the racquetball court from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

The cheerleaders are practicing two or three different routines at each practice, adapting the cheers for the home team, she said.

The cheerleading squad wants to start fundraising for uniforms and hopes to get the community involved, she said.

The cheer squad manager is Emma Sampson.
