Phlight Club will be arriving to Galena on Friday, Nov. 3 and continuing through the weekend.

Students need to fill out an application this year, and they’re encouraged to invite at least two adults to attend some of Phlight Club with them, said Corrie Hruby in an email about the upcoming event. Ms. Hruby used to be a science teacher in Galena and is now working for the I-Grad program with the Galena City School District.

Students can sign up by going to Angie Pittsenbarger on the GILA campus, Sharilyn Kriska on the SHS campus, or at the front desk at the dorms.

This fall, Phlight Club will be a lock-in at the GILA gym from 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3 through 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4.

Ms. Hruby said she’s inviting any adult in Galena who has participated in Phlight Club training in the past or just shown some desire to support students at Phlight Club to come over to the gym any time. She said she’d it would be especially great if adults would show up on Friday evening from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday evening from 4-7 p.m. You can join us for the fun activities and dinner, too, she said.

Derek Anderson will be the motivational speaker for the particular event. There would be group activities that are involve trust and socializing each other, along with other activities.

Phlight Club’s focus is teaching students that there are resources available to help with issues and struggles in life, plus supporting them by interacting with positive role models along with teaching them to make positive choices in life, according to its website.
