The new cosmetology teacher is Liza Ashley.

Ms. Ashley is now working as a residential dorm aide at Ptarmigan Hall. She begins working as a teacher next semester.

“I’m sad to leave the resident life staff and my job there,” she said. “But I’m excited for this new adventure and experience.”

Her husband Lowen Ashley is also a residential dorm aide.

“[The new teaching position] combines both my passions for teaching and cosmetology.” said Ms. Ashley.

She has worked as a professional cosmetologist at the Total Image Solutions salon in University Place, Washington.

Her goals are to have a successful year helping students learn the different aspects of the beauty industry.

Galena has been without a cosmetology teacher since last year.

The daughter of Bushrod Gordan and Emma Naomi Meyers, Ms. Ashley was born on February 14, 1981, and grew up in Waianae, Hawaii. She went to Kamaile Elementary School and Waianae High School.

After high school, she went to the University of Phoenix. For cosmetology training, she went to Salon Professional Academy.

She has three sisters – Angeline Bushlynn Lino, Naomi Emma Holt, and Noel Mahealani Ruble, who is also a residential dorm aid at GILA. She has one brother, Kealiinui Gordan Meyers. She has no kids, but has four nieces who she says are like her own.

She was in the National Guard for ten years and a property manager for three years for 96 units in Tacoma, Washington.

Ms. Ashley got married to her husband Lowen on June 5, 2008.
