Galena Lady Hawks basketball team member Romay Harris, a senior from Galena, announced on April 12 that she will be playing for the University of Alaska Fairbanks next year.

“I just really wanting to say thank you to the community members in Galena for supporting me through all my high school years. I am really excited to move on college level,” Romay said at a ceremony to sign her letter of intent at the Galena Bible Church.

She said she’s delighted to attend University of Alaska Fairbanks this coming fall. “If you guys want to see me play, you can watch or come see me play.”

There was about 40 to 45 people in the church seeing her sign the letter of intent. Team members, coach, and her parents stood in back of her to see the signing.

Romay has been a varsity player for the Lady Hawks during all four years in Galena.

During her senior year, she and her teammates came in second at regionals and went on to the state championships. She was named as one of the players on the Division 3A All-State girls’ team this year, and Romay also played on the 6th Annual Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Senior All Star Basketball team earlier this month in Anchorage.

In an interview after the signing, she said that she wants to help the UAF team grow, and she is looking forward to working with the new good coach. She said she wants to do her best in basketball and other games as well, adding that she is ready to learn more and do what she loves.
