Galena eighth grader Lucas Echenique has won the KIYU radio station drawing competition.

The logo Lucas drew was a moose being a DJ. “I thought it was cool, and because we see moose more often and I wanted to combine tradition with technology,” Lucas said.

“I made the design in late September and turned it in October,” he said. It took around 10 minutes to draw it.

Lucas was awarded $100 for his drawing.

KIYU is community radio for Alaska, according to the station’s website. Its mission is to bind the western Koyukuk region together through informative, entertaining, cultural and educational programing; uniquely tailored to the regions present and future needs.
