Galena skiers sweep at invitational meet

Galena skiers swept all the first places in the Galena Ski Invitational during the races on Friday, Feb. 19, on Alexander Lake. The skiers went up against visiting skiers from Unalakleet.

Jacob Moos came in first place for the high school boys with 24 minutes, 33 seconds on the 5-kilometer course. Carolyn Sam came in first for the high school girls with 26:32.

In the junior high division, the top skiers were Daniel Kopp and Breanna McLain. Among the elementary skiers, the first place was earned by Joe Riddle. Both the junior high and elementary skiers raced on a 3-kilometer course.

Saturday’s results for the top skiers in the relay were:
First place – Carolyn Sam and Margo Daniels, 14:59.
Second place – Daniel Kopp and Paytyn Cleaver, 15:10.
Third place – Sarah Brown and Ian Esmailka, 15:27.
