The Lady Hawks volleyball team has their only home game against the Hutchison Hawks on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, in the SHS gym.
On Friday, the seniors on the volleyball and cross country teams will be honored during Senior Night after the first game.
Game times are 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
“The team is learning a new line up and learning how to work together as a team,” said coach Rachel Weid. “It is not easy to communicate in a high stressful situation and the Lady Hawks are learning that communication is the key to a winning game. Not only to they have to communicate as a team they have to move as a team. The girls must ‘cover’ each other, block as team, and work the back row.”
All players have improved over the season, she said.
“The ones that have improved the most are the ones who are new to the sport and come a long way to contribute positively to the team. Those who have improved have a great attitude on and off the court and take constructive criticism and apply that to their skills,” said coach Weid.
The volleyball seniors are Katelyn Aloysius, Emma Nakak, Elizabeth (Noo Noo) Green, and Jasmine Andrews.
“Katelyn is a great all-around player and a terrific setter. She is to be commended for staying with volleyball for all 4 years of her high school career. Katelyn shows a true love for the sport and she will be greatly missed and not easily replaced,” said coach Wied.
“I am so proud of Emma, Jasmine, and Noo Noo for coming out and sticking with volleyball. Learning a new sport their senior year is not easy yet they handle with it with grace. Way to go girls!”
“The girls did a great job when there was a new line up for every different game. Including the fact they the team plays very few times. A typical volleyball season has 15-18 games before regionals. The Lady Hawks will have 5 before regionals. The team is at a deficient right from the beginning. I am super proud of how the girls have done so far this year,” said coach Weid.
