Lady Hawks senior Amanda Kopp is singing the national anthem at UAA Alaska Airlines Center during the state championship 3A-4A basketball games at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

Amanda will not play with the Galena girls basketball team at state, due to injuries to her head, ankle and shoulder during the season.

“Don’t set limitations on yourself, because once you do that you stunt your potential to grow and challenge yourself,” she said.

Amanda will be singing during the fourth place game in the winners bracket.

Amanda’s invitation to sing at state came after requests by Lady Hawks basketball coach David Wightman and athletic director Jason Harris, who sent information about Amanda’s singing to the state tournament officials.

Amanda has a long background involving singing since she was five years old. She is the Extreme Face-Off champion in 2014, an actress in several musical theater productions, sang as a soprano in the school choir, and has performed at many open-mic nights.

She has also presented the national anthem at least 20 to 25 times in the SHS gym from her seventh grade through her senior year.

She has also been asked to sing at the 2017 regionals by the Valdez coach, and was also asked to sing again by the athletic director for Delta high school.

She said she will either go to UAA or the Alaska Career College after graduation.
