The Yukon Jamboree is Friday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 1, in the SHS gym.

The first night starts at 5:30 p.m. with a “Welcome to Galena” cover dish welcoming new school staff to the community.

On Saturday, the jamboree is celebrating the “First Moose” potlatch where everyone gets to share the first moose from local hunters.

A special guest on Friday night is Joel West, a musician from Canada. “He promotes sobriety and healthy living with music,” wrote Shirley Cleaver, a jamboree organizer. “We believe his message is inspiring for young students.”

The musician wants to speak with local students, she said.

The Sobriety Award will be presented Saturday to Chris and Sharilyn Kriska.

The jamboree has dance lessons, local musicians, a Native dance group, student musicians, Yukon River bands, and a crafts and sales tables.
